Accusing that the protected areas are being concreted, DP deputy, Ina Zhupa argued in an interpellation with the Minister of Tourism, Mirela Kumbaro. According to Zhupa, 5.8 million m2 of land has been concreted for strategic investments that affected 9 protected areas and this is an act of environmental terrorism.
"Kumbaro is the longest serving minister because she is also the most generous. It paved the way for the destruction of the National Theatre. She was the one who opened the first cafeteria in Butrint and made the agreement with ADF for Butrint, concreting it," said Zhupa. "You have given 5.8 million square meters of land across the country to strategic investors. You are environmental terrorists", said Zhupa.
"For the first time, Albania expanded the areas of protected areas in 2022, bringing the area of protection to 21.5% of the territory! Yes, today 21.5% of the territory in Albania is a protected area with the will of this majority, with the work and dedication of this majority", was Kumbaro's answer.
She added that even in 2025, investments in protected areas will continue. "Investments in protected areas will be at the center of this government even in 2025, let me tell you here the Ulza hydropower park, construction of the multidimensional and scientific center in Vjosa", said Kumbaro.
