The State Election Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi has decided to immediately stop broadcasting all electoral advertisements that do not clearly indicate which political entity commissioned them. This decision, dated yesterday, May 8, 2025, applies to all radio and television stations, whether private or public, and comes into effect immediately.
According to the CEC, every electoral spot or advertisement must clearly indicate which party or candidate it belongs to, otherwise, its broadcast is prohibited by law.
Parties who disagree with this decision have the right to appeal within three days to the Appeals and Sanctions Commission.
"The CEC decides to immediately stop broadcasting on all private radio and television stations as well as public radio and television of spots/advertisements that do not clearly identify the ordering electoral entity. This decision enters into force immediately and is published on the official website of the Central Election Commission. An appeal may be filed against this decision with the Complaints and Sanctions Commission within 3 (three) days of its announcement ," the CEC decision states, A2 CNN confirms.
Celibashi's decision came after the broadcast of the Socialist Party of Albania's electoral spot which distorted the DP's electoral spot, A2 CNN reports.
This measure, according to the CEC, is based on the articles of the Electoral Code and aims to guarantee transparency during the electoral campaign.
