Integration into the European Union is the most essential process for the nation and the pole star of the Democratic Party's program. Sali Berisha affirmed this at the "Western Balkans Paradigm" conference, where in addition to thanks for the opposition's allies in the European chancelleries, there was also criticism of European Union officials.
"If you give priority to stabilocracy compared to standards, or accession for the sake of stability, this means that you pave the way for and are in alliance with autocracy. I think that no free EU country would want this result. Anyone who has any doubts, let them come to Albania and study the case. Albania is a typical case. It has given priority to stabilocracy compared to standards and this was transformed into an autocratic state," Berisha said.
Only geopolitics is the criterion that unites Albania with the European Union, claims Berisha, since, according to him, our country has turned into a narco-state and the prime minister has all the powers in his hands: "The Prime Minister of Albania, to your surprise, has since become the chairman of the National Council of Science, has since become the chairman of the National Water Committee, since then, the Albanian prime minister has changed laws and every single building, even one-story ones, must be signed by him in order to exist, violating every international principle because we are members of the Council of Europe and there is local autonomy, there is regional autonomy. But, this is the reality here."
He also sees aspects of what he calls a narco-state in the country's economy: "Why is it a narco-economy? If you look at our economy, every six months, according to statistics, industrial production falls more and more, as do exports and agro-industrial production. But the country continues to grow by 3-4 percent. This growth comes from construction."
He predicts a bleak future, as he claims that crime will take revenge against the state: "In the next delegation to the EU, if these cartels decide that their representatives will be part of the delegations to the Stabilization Council, the Council of Europe and other agencies. Why? Because they have been very active during the elections. Their candidates have received the majority of votes."
The "Western Balkans Paradigm" conference was organized by the Foundation of European People's Parties and the Democratic Party Foundation for Freedom and Democracy, and was also attended by EPP officials. (A2 Televizion)
