Prime Minister Edi Rama has categorically denied news from an Israeli journalist that Albania is in negotiations with the Trump administration to host more than 100,000 Palestinians.
Renowned journalist Amit Segal writes on social media that after Egypt and Jordan refused to host refugees from Gaza, officials in the new US administration have begun talks with the Albanian and Indonesian sides.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Rama states that no one has asked Albania for this, and adds that official Tirana can offer assistance like any other European country in such an issue.
The head of government once again expressed the position that the Palestinian people should have the fortune to live in their own democratic state without the influence of Hamas.
"I haven't heard something so false in a long time and there has been a lot of fake news lately! It is absolutely not true. Full respect and solidarity for the people of Gaza, who have been dehumanized by the savage Hamas regime and have endured a diabolical war after the medieval horrors of October 7. But let me be clear: Albania was not asked for by anyone and neither can we."
We are proud of our strong friendships with Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and, of course, with the Palestinian people, whose state Albania recognized long ago.
But Albania is not in the Middle East itself and from the heart of Europe, we cannot do more than any other European country on such an issue.
However, we wish and pray that the Palestinian people be given the chance to live in their own state, as free people under democratic rule, and that Hamas will never again be able to harm Israel or, above all, the Palestinians themselves," Rama writes.
I haven't heard something so fake in quite some time—and there's been a lot of fake news lately! It is absolutely not true.
