The electoral system that was applied in Albania before the 2008 agreement between Sali Berisha and Edi Rama to amend the Constitution, according to the former head of the CEC, Arben Ristani, is the most ideal for our country.
He stated in the studio of "Off the Record" with Andrea Dangli on A2 CNN that with such an electoral system, the DP could win against Edi Rama.
"Personally, I would have preferred the system we had, the majoritarian system mixed with proportional. So the system we had before 2008 is the best system this country needs. But still, we are where we are and we are forced to move within the rules of the game that have been established," Ristani said on "Off the Record" with Andrea Dangli on A2 CNN.
For the former Secretary General of the DP, the Democrats could have come to power in 2021, if the current majority had not unilaterally changed the Electoral Code, stopping pre-election coalitions.
"The DP has had a long ordeal in this type of situation that has been created in the country. Before the 2021 elections, coalitions were also removed from the Electoral Code, which greatly damaged the opposition's performance compared to the government. If that move had not been made, the DP could still be in power in 2021. With that move alone, the SMI at that time lost 6 mandates. They changed the Electoral Code with the power of a card, unilaterally and by going against international partners, they removed coalitions and that alone brought them victory. The SMI received about 100 thousand votes and only received 4 mandates," said Ristani on "Off the Record" with Andrea Dangli on A2 CNN. (A2 Televizion)
