Prime Minister Edi Rama does not give up on political protection for Erion Veliaj, describing the SPAK file as insufficient evidence to keep him in prison.
"Do you know that the head of the Municipality of Tirana, for whom a prison sentence was issued, is not a defendant? The prosecutor does not have sufficient evidence, but, according to him, he has sufficient suspicions," the prime minister said.
He continues to raise doubts about the Prosecutor's work with the claim that Veliaj and his wife are being pressured with communications found on the seized phones.
The Prime Minister blames the justice system for leaving the citizens of the capital without a leader.
"The mayor has not been found guilty, he is not even a defendant, he is simply a suspect. Who will do the work for which there is a municipality and for which citizens have elected mayors? Who?" he added.
As recently as last December, he considered his will not to interfere in justice matters historic. Today, when he compares SPAK to the investigation of the communist dictatorship, he refuses to call it an attack.
"How can this be called an attack on SPAK, when it is raising a problem that is so principled? There can be no SPAK without Edi Rama. Because you don't know everything, putting the existence of the government on the table: Either vote for the reform, or overthrow the government! Because I don't care about the government and I shouldn't make such a request for democratic standards". But SPAK is not the Vatican, "the head of government declared.
Beyond this communication with citizens, on Thursday he also held a meeting with the leaders of the Municipality of Tirana, which seems to be daily, while through social networks he denied the news that he would visit Erion Veliaj in the detention cell in Durrës, guaranteeing that neither he nor the Socialist Party will provide legal protection for the mayor.
