Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted on the "X" platform to the banning of TikTok in our country, stressing that this decision came after over 90% of parents wanted this.
"Banning TikTok for (at least) one year in Albania is not a hasty reaction to just one event, but a decision widely consulted with parent communities in schools across Albania. TikTok does not have what clarifications it requires from Albania, because Albanians decide in Albania, not the owners of the TikTok algorithm. While Albania is too small to ask TikTok to protect children and youth from the terrifying pitfalls of its algorithm, it wishes TikTok would do so for the benefit of all humanity, including Albania. To say that the murder of the teenage student has nothing to do with TikTok, because the conflict was not generated by Tik Tok, means that you have not understood either the seriousness of the threat that platostorm has brought to the children and youth of this time, nor the thread of reasoning of our decision to take responsibility for responding to that threat. Fortunately, Albania is a democratic country, where when over 90% of parents demand the ban of TikTok and when the overwhelming majority believes that the health of our children cannot serve the platform, but the platform must serve the health of our children, then the decision ours cannot be clearer: Either TikTok itself must protect Albania's children or Albania will protect its own children from TikTok", writes Rama on the social network.
