April, autism awareness month, has come to an end. But for parents of children suffering from this disorder, efforts to ease the burden of autism and make them happy know no dates, months, or even years.

Mirela Gjata, a new mother, tells A2 CNN that she and her husband have joined forces to face the daily challenges of autism, the disorder that one of their premature twins has.

Autism is a disorder that is growing worldwide, while the causes are still unknown. However, in Albania, parents of people with this disorder say that they do not have the support of the state for the treatment of children with the spectrum. In the face of autism and the indifference of politics and society, parents tell us that they do not stop working to provide the necessary therapies for their children.

Mirela, like many parents of children with autism, does not have time to think about herself, but she does not hide her anxiety about the future. Beyond dates and awareness campaigns, parents of children with autism demand concrete policies from the state and a non-discriminatory society.

Meanwhile, the latest figures coming out of the US on autism have shocked the entire world. 1 in 31 children is affected by autism spectrum disorders. (A2 Televizion)
