This is Lëpusha, one of the tourist villages in Malësia e Madhe, which with its white blanket of snow creates a magical view. But living in this area, especially during the winter season, is not easy. Even more so when it comes to a 10-year-old girl, who has to face every morning, together with her faithful dog, the bitter cold, the winds and the difficult snowy road to go to school.
A2 accompanied Suela one morning, who modestly and simply shows the sacrifice she makes, but which has become a daily routine for her.
As we accompany Suela, the only student, to the Lëpusha school, the teacher has arrived early, has started clearing the stairs of snow and turning on the stove so that Suela can find the warmest possible environment to conduct her lessons.
Suela's story, in addition to showing us her and her teacher's passion and desire to pursue education, also shows us the other side, that of the depopulation of this area. The teacher and Suela are perhaps among the only ones left in the area, as their friends have left.
The teacher himself says that 4-5 years ago the school had more students, while today only Suela attends it, despite difficulties.
Even though she is young, Suela understands that she is alone and that her hometown is depopulating, and perhaps for this reason she has set herself the goal of becoming a nurse to help the people who still live there.
Written, Suela's story could be perceived as a fairy tale character. But experienced, you understand that these people do not want to abandon their country, it is enough to create a few conditions for them to build a life in their homeland in peaceful coexistence with the blessings and difficulties that nature has bestowed upon them.
