Cristiano Ronaldo fans gathered in Times Square on Wednesday to unveil the 12-foot-tall bronze statue of the Portuguese footballer, along with its creator, sculptor Sergio Furnari.
“I stayed up all night for this, then an hour... an hour train ride to get here,” said Oja Dindiyel, 17. “The GOAT! The greatest of all time! The best player of all time. The best athlete! The best person of all time!”
The statue arrived in a Jeep and was mobile because there was no designated location for it, writes A2 CNN. Furnari built it to honor the athlete's career and global impact on the 40th anniversary of his birth on February 5.
He was hoping to set a Guinness World Record for the largest number of people worldwide simultaneously shouting Cristiano Ronaldo's famous catchphrase, "Siuuu!".
"It was time for someone to do something about this, something monumental," Furnari told Reuters. "Not a statue of (US President Donald) Trump, not of (Trump associate) Elon Musk. I love you both! But I'd rather work for Cristiano Ronaldo."
The baker said he is now taking the statue on a world tour. (A2 Televizion)
