There is very little time left for Albania to host the "Giro d'Italia", one of the most famous sporting events in the world, where "La Grande Partenza 2025" - "The Great Start 2025" will be finalized.
This event will capture the attention of sports fans around the world, where everyone will have the opportunity to follow it live on over 200 television stations around the world.
The famous race, with a 114-year tradition, will gather the world's best cyclists on May 9, 10 and 11 in Tirana, Durrës and Vlora, where they will traverse different terrains to reach the final point.
"Amerigo Vespucci"
On April 9, "Amerigo Vespucci", one of the most iconic and prestigious ships of the Italian Navy, a symbol of history, tradition and passion for the sea, will anchor in the port of Durrës.
As part of the Giro d'Italia, the "Amerigo Vespucci" stop in Durrës also serves as a promotion of Italian culture around the world.
A special environment will be created on board the ship, where the "Senza Fine" Trophy will be exhibited, in the presence of 50 guests from various institutions and the media.
Among the guests who will deliver the keynote address will be the Commander of the "Amerigo Vespucci", Prime Minister Edi Rama, CEO of RCS Sports & Events, Paolo Bellino, representatives from the Ministry of Defense and the Italian Navy, as well as the Italian Ambassador to Albania.

Itinerary, first day on May 9, 2025 – length 164 kilometers;
The departure will be in Durrës, to pass towards Bishqem-Fushë, Papër, Gracen and then to travel the road that leads to Surrel and the entire Dajti mountain, and then to Tirana.
1800 meters of elevation gain in 164 kilometers to Tirana with a second category GPM after 70 km, 13.5 km with 5.2% average, 11% maximum. The final circuit of 22 km has a short climb in the middle, to be repeated twice before the possible sprint.
Itinerary, second day (chronometer), May 10, 2025 – length 13.7 kilometers;
Starting in Tirana and finishing in Tirana. This will be a cross-country and city race, which will run through the entire city of Tirana. Starting from Skanderbeg Square, the 13.7 kilometers of the race will cover the main streets of the city and there will be a time trial. The intermediate time is 8 km, a 1.5 km category 4 climb with a 6% gradient. The second half of the downhill is flat to the finish line, but good driving skills will also be required.
Itinerary, third day on May 11, 2025 – length 160 kilometers;
The start is in Vlora and the end is also in Vlora.
Everything on May 11, 2025 starts from Vlora and crosses a large part of the southern coast. Vlora – Peshkëpi – Qafa e Dushkut – Brataj – Qafa e Shkallës – Porto Palermo – Himarë – Qafa e Vishës – Iliaz – Qafa e Llogorasë – Orikum and the arrival is in Vlora. 2700 meters of elevation gain in 160 kilometers with departure and arrival from Vlora and two GPM. The first of the fourth category, the second in less than 40 km before the descent that leads to the finish line.
