The Albanian Olympic Committee denounces the behavior of the President of the Russian Wrestling Federation towards wrestler Chermen Valiev, who was called a traitor during the medal ceremony after choosing to compete for Albania, writes A2 CNN.
"The sport of wrestling has been involved in a real scandal during the medal ceremony at the European Championship held in Bratislava, Slovakia. The President of the Russian Wrestling Federation and Vice-President of the World Wrestling Federation, Mikhail Mamiashvili, at the moment of presenting the Gold medal to Chermen Valiev, as European Champion for Albania, made a scandalous gesture, exerting force while placing the medal around his neck and then pushing it with his hands. During this moment, the word 'traitor' was also heard for Chermen Valiev, who chose to compete for Albania," KOKSH writes in a reaction on social networks.
Valiev won the gold medal on Wednesday at the European Wrestling Championships, which are taking place in Slovakia, defeating Russian Zaurbek Sidakov in the freestyle 74 kg weight class.
On his way to the final, Valiev has put in a stellar performance. In the semifinals, he defeated Azerbaijan's Aghanazar Novruzov with a clean 6-0 win, while in the quarterfinals he easily defeated Ramazan Ramazanov, with a score of 10-0. (A2 Televizion)
