In 2023, local authorities inaugurated a football pitch, which cost £700,000 and was also certified by FIFA. However, pupils at the Cornwallis Academy school in Maidstone, Kent, have now been banned from playing there.
The reason? Neighbors complained about the noise caused by referees' whistles, writes the Daily Mail.
The artificial grass field, which opened in June 2023, has been blocked since August. The municipality had approved the construction on the condition that the whistle would not be used outside of school hours, but the school did not enforce the rule and neighbors began to complain about the constant noise.
Local residents say they are disturbed by the sound of screaming, shouting and the crashing of cannons for hours. One neighbor said he always keeps his window closed, as the noise can be heard in all rooms of the house.
The municipality has threatened punitive measures for violating the permit conditions, completely banning the use of the field, even during school hours.
The school has been forced to submit a new noise study showing that its noise levels are acceptable, but neighbors and environmental officials are objecting to this. The next planning commission meeting is expected to decide whether to lift the whistle ban. (A2 Televizion)
