John Lennon's psychedelic pool mosaic goes up for auction

Part of John Lennon's artistic legacy is to be auctioned. At the heart of Bonhams' Rock, Pop & Film sale on November 29 is the iconic Psychedelic Eye mosaic, commissioned by the musician in 1965.

In 1964, John Lennon and his then wife Cynthia bought a mansion on St George's Hill in Kenwood, Surrey, United Kingdom.

For the outdoor pool, Lennon commissioned a massive mosaic of 17,000 tiles of an eye that would look up from the deep end wall and create a psychedelic effect.

The Kenwood home was sold in 1968 after the couple divorced, but the hallucinatory mosaic would remain in the pool until 1984, when it was removed from the pool wall for safekeeping by Kenwood's owners at the time.

Now, almost six decades after its installation, the piece will go up for auction on November 29, with an estimate that the auction house has described as "a six-figure sum".

"This monumental mosaic is a wonderful example of the Beatle's vision and artistic influences," Claire Tole-Moir, head of Bonhams in London, said in a statement. (A2 Televizion)
