Ellidaey is the third largest island of the Westman Islands, located south of Iceland. It has an area of only 0.45 square kilometers and can only be reached via a rope attached to one of its cliffs.
The only permanent residents are parrots. The island is also a protected area and a nature reserve, writes A2 CNN.
What makes the island famous is the building that rises atop one of its hills. This building has inspired many legends, including speculation that it belonged to a religious hermit or a strange billionaire who bought it as a shelter in case of an apocalypse. Some have even suggested that the singer Bjork is the owner of this lonely house.
However, the truth is that the building was built in 1954 and belongs to a group that organizes parrot hunting excursions.
The building has no electricity or running water. It serves as a base for storing equipment and resting. The house also has a sauna, which is supplied with water collected from the rain. (A2 Televizion)
