Meet the country where trees cannot grow

The Faroe Islands are a country in the middle of nowhere, in the North Atlantic, "locked" between Norway, the United Kingdom and Iceland, or rather between the rushing waters that collide with its shores. What stands out in this remote place is the almost total absence of trees, a feature that certainly has a scientific explanation.

According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, it is a natural phenomenon defined by the conditions of the Faroe Islands. In other words, the environmental and climatological circumstances are not ideal for the growth of almost any type of tree. This is mainly due to the cold summer, strong westerly winds and frequent storms that ravage the archipelago. If that wasn't enough, the air is fed with the salinity of the sea, which contributes to the difficulty of the trees growing and surviving. However, some resistant trees have been planted in this state, but this has been done in protected plantations.

In addition to trees, the Faroe Islands also lacks rats, which makes it a suitable place for those people who have a phobia. The bad news is that since it is an island, some ships carry these rodents as "passengers".

The Faroe Islands were colonized by Norse Vikings around 800 AD, which is why many locals are descendants of that people. However, it is thought that even then, the panorama was similar to what it is today: that of treeless islands. (A2 Televizion)
