South Korean K-pop singer Wheesung has been found dead in his home at the age of 43. He was found unconscious in his apartment on Monday evening by emergency responders after his mother called for help, local media reported.
Police told local media that they had found no signs of violence, but warned that "a considerable amount of time" had passed since he died.
"Artist Wheesung has left us," his management agency Tajoy Entertainment confirmed on Tuesday, describing their staff and colleagues as "deeply saddened."
Wheesung, who had a string of hits in South Korea, including a popular cover of British star Craig David's Insomnia, was scheduled to perform alongside singer KCM in the southeastern city of Daegu this weekend.
In his latest social media post, Wheesung announced the upcoming concert and wrote, "Weight loss is over. See you on March 15th."
Since his debut as a singer in 2002, Wheesung was popular in South Korea with numerous hit songs, and was well-regarded for his soulful performances.
But his music career took a hit in 2021, when he was sentenced to prison for using propofol, a powerful anesthetic that also caused the death of Michael Jackson.
