The United States is considering using one of the most impressive feats of aerospace engineering - the WindRunner aircraft, currently under construction by Colorado-based startup Radia. This aircraft, considered the world's largest, will have a length of 108 meters and a wingspan of 80 meters, writes A2 CNN.
With a transport capacity exceeding 72,575 kg, the WindRunner offers 12 times more cargo space than a Boeing 787. Originally designed to support the wind energy industry, specifically in the transport of giant turbine blades reaching up to 100 meters in length, this aircraft has attracted the attention of the US Department of Defense.
The Pentagon hopes to use this aircraft to transport large equipment for space launches, as well as for humanitarian aid to remote regions or those hit by natural disasters, writes A2 CNN. According to Radia CEO Mark Lundstrom, WindRunner is designed to deliver extremely large loads to areas that have been inaccessible to conventional aircraft until now.
This collaboration signals a new era in the interaction between the private sector and the US national defense.
