The member states of the Union and the European Parliament have reached a preliminary agreement on the Artificial Intelligence Act.
This is the world's first attempt to regulate the rapidly evolving technology in a comprehensive, ethics-based way.
The agreement was reached at the political level on Friday night after talks that continued throughout the day and followed an unsuccessful marathon between Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.

In total, the talks lasted over 35 hours. The agreement was reached after intense lobbying by technology companies of all sizes, stern warnings from civil society and intense media scrutiny as the legislation from Brussels could positively impact similar regulatory efforts around the world.
