An explosion has occurred in central Athens, near the offices of the Greek railway company, Hellenic Train. Security camera footage captured the moment of the explosion. It is suspected that the explosives were placed in a backpack, which was left outside the office, late on Friday.
Police said anonymous calls were made to Greek media outlets warning of the attack, which took place near one of the capital's busiest streets, A2 CNN writes.
No casualties or injuries were reported. Greece’s Transport Minister, Christos Staikouras, condemned it as a “criminal act” that “endangered people’s lives.” Local news outlets such as Efsyn and Zougla each received a call reporting that the explosive device had been placed in a closed backpack and placed on an unregistered scooter.
A police bomb disposal squad arrived too late to safely detonate the device. (A2 Televizion)
