A powerful bomb explosion rocked Athens, specifically near the headquarters of the Hellenic Train company on Syngrou Boulevard. The incident occurred at around 9:30 p.m. and according to information from Greek authorities, the explosive device was placed in a backpack, which was tied to a pole in front of the company's building.
The explosion was preceded by a warning call at 20:53 to the offices of the Greek Journalists Association (ESHEA), where an anonymous person announced the placement of a bomb that would explode in 35-40 minutes, clearly adding that "it's not a joke."
The Greek police immediately took action, creating a security perimeter and temporarily closing traffic on Syngrou Boulevard. The special mine clearance forces (TEEM) arrived at the scene, and found a scooter without license plates near the area, but it was later clarified that the bomb was placed on a pole and not on the vehicle.
Footage shows the moment of the explosion, with a powerful flash of light illuminating the area. Fortunately, there were no injuries – neither among the company's employees nor bystanders – and material damage was minor.
The Hellenic Train company confirmed the incident, stressing that it is in full cooperation with the authorities and condemns any act of violence that divides society and undermines progress. Investigations are ongoing, while authorities are analyzing similarities with a previous explosion near the Ministry of Labor last year.
