"There will be riots in Skopje", the decision of the Constitutional

The Constitutional Court of North Macedonia has decided to postpone the hearing for the evaluation of the constitutionality and legality of the Law on the use of languages for an indefinite date. Experts in the field and representatives of political parties are expected to participate in this session, who will present their arguments regarding the contestation of the Law on Languages. The proposal to postpone the session was made by the judge of the Constitutional Court, Elizabeta Dukovska, who is responsible for this case.

Judge Dobrilla Kacarska was against this decision, who emphasized that the court should be the one that gives the final word. At the opening of the session on Wednesday, judge Fatmir Skenderi proposed postponing the session for two weeks, in order to ensure the presence of two Albanian judges and complete the composition of the court. The proposal was rejected by vote, and after that judge Skenderi released the session.

Meanwhile, outside the Constitutional Court, the leader of DUI, Ali Ahmeti, who leads the European Front, declared to the people gathered in front of the building that the date December 11, 2024 reminds them of the period of 1989, when, according to him, "Milosevic suppressed the autonomy of Kosovo".

In front of the Constitutional Court in Skopje, other leaders of the European Front in the opposition were also present, such as Zijadin Sela, leader of one faction of the Alliance for Albanians, as well as a large number of citizens and party sympathizers. Sela emphasized the fact that the Albanian language in North Macedonia is the basic element for keeping this country united.

The law on the use of the Albanian language as an official language in the territory of North Macedonia was approved in 2018, after a long political process and negotiations that lasted for 17 years. He made it possible for the Albanian language to be official in municipalities where Albanians make up more than 20 percent of the population, as well as at the level of central authorities.
