The Municipal Assembly of Cetina demanded on Friday that the people responsible for security in Montenegro resign and that an international investigation be carried out into the actions of the police on January 1, after the tragic event where 13 people were killed.
27 out of 30 local representatives voted in favor of the demands made by the mayor Nikola Gjurashkovic.
They demanded that Deputy Prime Minister for Security Aleksa Becic, Interior Minister Danilo Sharanovic and Police Chief Lazar Shqepanovic resign or be dismissed "as an act of taking objective professional responsibility".
They also called for an independent international investigation to investigate what happened on January 1st and for accountability.
On January 1, Aco Martinovic from Cetina killed 13 people, including two children, and seriously injured three others.
According to the data of the Police Directorate, the murders were committed in five different places in the city within half an hour. The police operation to find the perpetrator lasted at least 6 hours and then he committed suicide.
This is the second mass crime committed in Cetina in the last two years. Earlier, in August 2022, another person killed 10 fellow citizens, mostly neighbors, and injured six others.
Many residents of Montenegro are angry with the police reform, the lack of qualified employees and the lack of funds. / Voice of America (A2 Televizion)
