What Vucic had long warned became a reality this Friday. The United States imposed sanctions on Russia's oil industry, which also target the Serbian company, the Oil Industry of Serbia, NIS.

The American Treasury announced that it has sanctioned the Russian state company Gazprom and NEFT, while the Serbian company NIS is being punished because of the so-called "secondary risk", which means the connection with the Russian Gazprom, reports A2 CNN.

Britain has also joined these sanctions. The outgoing administration of Democrat Joe Biden called the sanctions the most significant yet against Moscow's oil and liquefied natural gas sectors, which underpin the Russian economy.

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, announced in a press conference that it is a matter of "serious and serious sanctions" and that "the complete removal of Russia from the ownership of NIS" is required.

"These sanctions can be extremely restrictive, as they prohibit any transactions with Russian interests and immediately freeze assets linked to sanctioned individuals," Vucic said, A2 CNN reports.

He added that Serbia has been given a 45-day deadline to carry out the transformation of the ownership of NIS. The Serbian president emphasized that the NIS will only be able to continue functioning "in an orderly manner", while the transformation of ownership must begin immediately.

"Serbia is not an enemy country of Russia, I will talk to Putin", were the words of Vucic. (A2 Televizion)
