Serbia will never recognize Kosovo. This fact has been announced by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić. Present in the Czech Republic to be part of the high-level GLOBSEC forum, which is being held in Prague, the Serbian head of state mentioned the United Nations Resolution 1244, which gives a significant presence to Serbian institutions in Kosovo.
"It's about Kosovo, as you know, we adhere to the United Nations Charter and Resolution 1244, which says that Kosovo is part of Serbia, and 22 out of 27 member states of the European Union have already recognized the independence of Kosovo, and five out of those 27 countries have not done so, and that's the problem. Neither Bratislava, Bucharest, Athens, Madrid, Nicosia are ready to recognize the independence of Kosovo. As a result, Belgrade is not ready to recognize the independence of Kosovo," said Aleksandar Vučić, President of Serbia.
Vučić also mentions Resolution 1244 to justify Serbia's stance on Ukraine and Russia's war. He justified it by saying that you can't explain the principles of international law to a Serb.
"When I'm talking about this, if we're talking about the territorial integrity of Ukraine, when we're talking about the violation of the principles of the United Nations, of the principles of public international law, then it's difficult to explain to anyone in Serbia, not me, not the politicians in power, but anyone in Serbia, what's happening with the territorial integrity of Serbia. And Resolution 1244 is still valid and nobody cares, because there were other political interests that were much more important for some Western allies than the United Nations Charter and public international law."
Regarding Serbia's EU integration, Vučić said that it is a political issue, not a matter of merit. He used the analogy of Albanians and Slavs in North Macedonia.
“We had the same proximity to the EU 20 years ago, but at that time 80 percent of the population was for the EU, and today 40 percent, which is twice as much. We have a regional problem with Pristina, this issue is very difficult, it is difficult to solve. It is not just about Serbia, you have the same problem in North Macedonia and a big division between Macedonians and Albanians. Albanians support 80 percent of EU entry within North Macedonia, and Macedonians as a people are like Serbs or are still skeptical, which shows that it has nothing to do with Russia. It has to do with our needs, with our expectations,” said Aleksandar Vučić, President of Serbia.
Vučić stated that preparations are being made in Serbia for elections in Serbia and they are expected to be held at the end of next year or in early 2027. (A2 Televizion)
