Preparations for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump are at an “advanced stage,” a senior lawmaker in Moscow said today, according to the Russian state news agency RIA.
According to RIA, Leonid Slutsky, head of the international affairs committee in the State Duma, said the meeting could take place in February or March.
Trump and Putin have both said they want to have a meeting, the agenda of which could include nuclear arms control and global energy prices, as well as Trump's stated goal of ending the war in Ukraine.
Slutsky also said he expects the two leaders to also talk about the situation in the Middle East.
"This work requires serious preparation, which - I'm not revealing any secrets - is currently in an advanced stage," he said.
Slutsky declined to speculate on when the meeting might take place.
"February or March, let's not make assumptions and let's give leaders the opportunity to prepare for it in an adequate and comprehensive way, but it will be soon," he said, according to RIA. (A2 Televizion)
