Protesters fill the square in Belgrade, Vucic "deals" with Kurti

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has accused Prime Minister Albin Kurti of not certifying the Serbian List for the parliamentary elections of February 9, 2025.

Vucic said that Kurti "is trying to eliminate the only political opponent in Kosovo - Lista Serbe and that with the help of his allies he wants to exterminate the Serbian people", reports KosovaPress.

"When this is added to the fierce attacks of various pressure groups within the country, it is clear to everyone that the ultimate goal is the collapse of Serbia. We will not give Serbia to anyone and Serbia will not stop! There is no surrender,” he said.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has not certified the Serbian List for the February elections due to its stance against the state of Kosovo. Some of the reasons are the nationalist appeals of the chairman of the Serbian List, Zlatan Elek, during the presentation of the list of candidates.

The Serbian president's statement came on a day when thousands of students and other citizens of Serbia staged a protest march through the streets of Belgrade to the state prosecutor's office. They delivered exactly 1,000 identical letters to the High Public Prosecutor, Zagorka Dolovac, asking her to start doing her job to bring justice to the tragedy in Novi Sad where 15 people lost their lives.

"Students expect you to fight for law and justice, without political abuse or corruption," read the submitted letters. The prosecutor requested a meeting with the organizers of the protest, but that was not accepted by the students. Among their demands is the resignation of President Aleksandar Vucic and the government of Prime Minister Milos Vucic, who are accused of being responsible for negligence and corruption in repairing the shelter that collapsed at the train station in Novi Sad on November 1.

The organizers have told the media that they are facing threats, as they promised that nothing will stop them, not even the bad weather and snow that was today. President Vucic warned of the use of special military units "Cobra" to disperse the protesters. On Sunday, students and farmers held the largest ever protest in the history of Serbia, gathering over 100,000 people. (A2 Televizion)
