Protests erupt in Serbia, students block TV headquarters in Belgrade and Novi

Tensions erupted overnight in Belgrade, where groups of students blocked the headquarters of public broadcaster RTS in the center of the capital.

After taking action shortly before midnight, the protesters said the action would continue for 22 hours.

"Everyone will be able to leave the building, but no one will be able to enter," organizers said, a2 CNN writes.

A police unit that arrived at the scene to secure the exit of personnel was attacked and one officer was taken to hospital with an eye injury. No other significant incidents have been reported so far.

President Aleksandar Vučić immediately went to the hospital to visit the injured policeman, A2 CNN reports.

"The violent think they are allowed everything. It is not so. They will answer for every violent act they commit," Vučić wrote on Instagram.

In solidarity with their colleagues in Belgrade, students in Novi Sad also blocked the entrances to the headquarters of Radio Television Vojvodina (RTV) overnight. Large police forces have arrived at the scene. (A2 Televizion)
