Disco tragedy, Macedonian deputy minister reveals the condition of those injured

The condition of those injured in a deadly nightclub fire in North Macedonia remains largely stable, Deputy Health Minister Jovica Andovski said on Tuesday.

However, she added that "it is not possible to say what their situation will be in the future, because it is still early."

At least 59 people died and 155 others were injured when a fire broke out during a concert in the eastern North Macedonian town of Kocani in the early hours of Sunday.

A total of 76 people injured in the fire have been sent abroad for treatment, while the rest with more minor injuries are receiving treatment in local hospitals.

Macedonian authorities intend to send more injured people abroad for further treatment, including to countries such as Poland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, Croatia, Norway and Slovenia.

Hundreds of citizens protested in Kocani on Monday to express anger and demand justice after the fire at the "Puls" nightclub.

The Macedonian government has declared seven days of mourning for this tragedy, where most of the victims were young.

Authorities have promised a swift and thorough investigation, and have arrested 23 suspects so far, 11 of whom are in custody.

Authorities discovered that the club was operating illegally, did not have valid work documents, did not have a permit to use pyrotechnics, and had not signed a contract with the band.

Among the violations found is allowing minors into the club.

About 500 people were in the nightclub when the fire broke out while the band ADN was performing./ REL (A2 Televizion)
