A serious incident took place in Reggio Calabria in Italy, where a 67-year-old doctor was killed in an ambush with a firearm. Italian media reports that the doctor was on duty as a medical guard at the Santa Cristina hospital in Aspromonte, in Reggino. She was driving back after finishing her shift, along with her 66-year-old husband Antonio Napoli, also a doctor, who was injured.
According to preliminary investigations, two people hiding in the surrounding land fired at the car near a sharp bend in the road connecting Santa Cristina to Taurianova. As a result, the woman died while her husband was wounded in the arm.
The investigators from Reggio Calabria have also gone to the scene, who have conducted the first investigations and are trying to reconstruct the dynamics of the event for which the investigation has been opened by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Palmi.
Investigators are trying to understand the context in which the crime took place. The hypothesis of an event related to organized crime has been excluded from the first investigations, but the investigations are only at the beginning.
