A powerful earthquake struck Turkey on Wednesday, A2 CNN reports. According to the European Mediterranean Seismic Center, the magnitude of the strongest shock was 6.2 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Sea of Marmara, near Istanbul, at a depth of 6.2 kilometers.
Other aftershocks of magnitude 5, 4.4 and 5.3 followed in the following minutes, while there are still no reports of damage.
Tremors measuring 4 on the Richter scale were also felt a few kilometers to the west, in Xanthi, Greece. According to EMSC, the depth of the earthquake was 15 kilometers. (A2 Televizion)
