The body of Pope Francis, who died on Monday at the age of 88, was transferred this morning from Casa Santa Marta to St. Peter's Basilica for the faithful to pay their respects.
The Pope's body, carried by the sedari and accompanied by the solemn procession, entered St. Peter's Basilica, where it was received with long and touching applause from the faithful.
Meanwhile, the bells ringing in St. Peter's Square and the antiphon of Psalm 22, sung in Latin, accompany the procession.
Three days of prayer, with extraordinary opening hours, to allow all those who wish to pay their last respects to the Holy Father.
The funeral will take place on Saturday morning at 10:00, in the presence of the greats of the Earth: from Trump to Zelensky, from von der Leyen to Starmer. In the chapel of the Casa Santa Marta on Tuesday, the Pope's body was visited by cardinals, Vatican employees and personalities such as the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, while the Italian government has declared five days of national mourning from Tuesday to Saturday.
