Several people have been injured in a mass stabbing attack in the Netherlands. A police officer is among the injured and at least one person is said to be in a very serious condition.
Emergency services were called to the scene in Hoofddorp, the main town in the Haarlemmermeer, in northern Holland, early this morning.
Police said in a statement that they received a report of a knife attack on Fanny Blankers-Koenlaan at around 6 a.m.
" There are several victims, including a colleague. Multiple ambulances are at the scene ," Politie Eenheid Noord-Holland announced in a statement.
A trauma helicopter was at the scene this morning, Algemeen Dagblad reports, along with at least six ambulances and two trauma teams.
Footage from the scene showed a police cordon marking off an area on a street in the city. Ambulances were parked on both sides of the road and police officers could be seen standing nearby, next to what appeared to be a stretcher.
Local media reported that the injured officer was taken to hospital, in a police car "stained with blood".
It was not immediately clear what caused the incident, and police are currently investigating.
Fanny Blankers-Koenlaan is a group living facility for people with disabilities. Police have not revealed the identities of the injured, or the nature of the injuries, other than the fact that one person was seriously injured. (A2 Televizion)
