An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.4 was recorded on Thursday evening in the Messina area.
Reports from the scene indicate that the tremors lasted several seconds, causing many panicked residents to take to the streets.
No damage or injuries have been reported previously.
The tremor comes a few hours after the earthquake in Campi Flegri near Naples, where one person was injured and there was damage to many buildings. (A2 Televizion)
