Russia is ready to agree to the United States' proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a press conference during a meeting with Belarusian leader Aleksandr Lukashenko. But according to Putin, this agreement must be clarified to the end and the root causes of the conflict must be addressed, writes A2 CNN.
"We agree with the proposals for a cessation of hostilities. But we emphasize the fact that this cessation should be such as to lead to long-term peace and eliminate the initial causes of this crisis. The idea itself is correct and we certainly support it. But there are issues that we need to discuss. And I think we should also talk to our American colleagues. But who will give orders to stop hostilities?... Who will determine where and who has violated a possible ceasefire agreement for 2,000 kilometers?"
Putin stressed that it is beneficial for Ukraine to reach a 30-day ceasefire due to the fact that all its troops in the Kursk region are blocked. However, he drew attention to the fact that the ceasefire could be used to take weapons or carry out forced mobilization.
"The situation in the Kursk region is fully under Russia's control. The Russian Federation is liberating all settlements near Suja one by one. Ukrainian militants are completely surrounded, the Ukrainian army is trying to react in small groups, but it is impossible," said Vladimir Putin, President of Russia.
Putin thanked Trump for his efforts to end the war. He said he might call Trump to discuss the issue. Russian forces have been advancing since mid-2024 and control nearly a fifth of Ukraine's territory, three years into a war that U.S. President Donald Trump has said he will stop. (A2 Televizion)
