At least 18 people were killed in a stampede at a train station in the Indian capital New Delhi as growing crowds rushed to board trains to attend the world's largest Hindu religious gathering, the Kumbh Mela.
Thousands of people reportedly clashed at the railway station on Saturday night as they tried to board delayed trains.
According to a list released by officials, four of the victims were children and 10 were women.
Crowd suppression is common in India, where there is frequent overcrowding at religious events, festivals and public spaces.
The incident comes weeks after 30 people were killed before dawn at the religious festival, the Kumbh Mela, in northern India, where tens of millions of Hindus had gathered to bathe in the waters of sacred rivers on one of the holiest days of the six-week event. (A2 Televizion)
