Marco Rubio begins Middle East tour, heavy bomb shipment from US arrives in

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who arrived in Israel on Saturday evening, will begin his first Middle East tour today. The focus is on President Donald Trump's plan to resettle the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip to other countries and rebuild it under US ownership, A2 CNN reports.

On his first visit to the Middle East region as the top US diplomat, Rubio will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has praised the plan, but Arab leaders have rejected it and are rushing to present a counterproposal.

Israel's Defense Ministry announced today that a shipment of "heavy" US-made bombs arrived in Israel overnight, as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio began his first visit to the country, writes A2 CNN.

“A shipment of heavy aerial bombs recently sent by the United States government was received and discharged overnight in Israel,” the ministry said in a press release, referring to the MK-84 bombs recently authorized by the administration of President Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has so far withheld approval for the entry of caravans and heavy equipment into the Gaza Strip during security consultations on Saturday evening. According to local media, the reason for the Israeli prime minister’s refusal to approve the entry of equipment into the Strip is because Netanyahu wants to extend the current first phase of the deal beyond the stipulated 42 days, which will end on March 1, and secure the release of more hostages as part of the first phase, including others that Israel now knows are in poor health.  (A2 Televizion)
