Tuscany and Umbria in Italy are facing a violent wave of bad weather that has caused damage and disruptions in various parts of Italy. In the areas of Florence, Prato and Arezzo, around 4,000 lightning strikes fell, in addition to intense storms that caused trees to fall. Across the region, 27,000 lightning strikes were recorded in 12 hours. In the areas of Gambassi Terme and Montespertoli, in the province of Florence, 61 mm and 60 mm of rain fell respectively in just over an hour, writes A2 CNN.
Also worth mentioning is a downpour of over 60 mm of rain that fell in one hour in the San Gimignano area, southwest of Florence.
The Pisa Fire Department Command carried out several interventions during the night due to the unfavorable weather situation and the "yellow alert", issued by the Tuscany Regional Functional Center, which affected the Province of Pisa throughout its territory.
In Umbria, a violent storm hit the Orvieto area during the night between 6 and 7 July, causing damage. In the city's monumental cemetery, strong winds caused a tree to fall in the outer square, blocking the entrance. While inside, water collapsed several tombs, and the caretaker's office was also flooded. The municipality ordered the cemetery closed for three days to allow for security measures and restoration work, reports A2 CNN.
The bad weather, concentrated in just over an hour, also caused the flooding of the technical rooms of the underground parking at Campo della Fiera - Foro Boario, causing the breakdown of the electrical system.
Landslides occurred along the roads between Torretta and Lake Sugano, in the La Cacciata area and in Torre San Severo. Fallen branches and trees were reported particularly in the Canale area, in the Tamburino area and in San Valentino. (A2 Televizion)
