NATO chief Mark Rutte warned this weekend that World War III would be triggered by simultaneous attacks by Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin. The alliance's secretary general suggested that combined attacks by the leaders of China and Russia could trigger a nightmare of global war and bring the planet to the brink of "Armageddon."
According to the NATO chief, China will try to take control of Taiwan while ensuring that the Kremlin dictator simultaneously attacks NATO territories, amid fears that Putin is already setting his sights on the Baltic republics of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, which were once part of the Soviet Union.
Stressing the urgent need to increase military budgets, Rutte revealed to The New York Times a frightening vision for the future.
"Let's not be naive about this. If Xi Jinping were to attack Taiwan, he would first call his much younger partner, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, in Moscow, and say: 'Hey, I'm going to do this, and I need you to help me in Europe by attacking NATO territories.' This is the most likely way the situation will develop, and to deter them, we need to do two things," Rutte declared.
Continuing his dire warning, Rutte also explained the solutions available to the West.
"The first is that NATO, collectively, is so strong that the Russians don't dare do that. And the second is to work together with the Indo-Pacific region - something that President Trump promotes a lot, because we have a close connection, and we need to work together in the defense industry and in innovation between NATO and the Indo-Pacific," the NATO chief added.
Rutte also warned that Putin is arming himself at a very rapid pace, insisting that Western countries must increase defense spending.
"We have an extraordinary geopolitical challenge ahead. And that, first of all, is Russia, which is rebuilding at a pace and speed unprecedented in recent history. They are now producing three times more ammunition in three months than all of NATO in a year. This is unsustainable, but the Russians are cooperating with the North Koreans, with the Chinese and the Iranians, the mullahs, in this unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine. So the Indo-Pacific region and our Atlantic are becoming increasingly interconnected. We know that China has its eyes on Taiwan," he further underlined.
But Russia itself thought of disproving the former Dutch prime minister's claims. The Kremlin reacted by saying that Rutte " has eaten too many of the magic mushrooms beloved by the Dutch ."
Former President Dmitry Medvedev, once Putin's right-hand man, expressed on the 'X' platform with irony that Rutte should prepare for a future in a terrible Siberian labor camp.
"He sees cooperation between China and Russia over Taiwan and then a Russian attack on Europe. But he is right about one thing: he needs to learn Russian. It will get him a job in a Siberian camp," Medvedev said.
The NATO chief's warnings come as Russia continued its offensive in Ukraine, just days after Putin called Trump and told him he has no intention of stopping his war of aggression. (A2 Televizion)
