Ukraine believes that a US-Russia war would be beneficial for Kiev. This was stated by the main adviser to Volodymyr Zelensky, Mikhail Podoliak, to local media in Ukraine. In an interview published by the Russian media RBK Ukraine, he discussed the possibility of a deployment of US troops in the country under President Donald Trump.

When asked about the likelihood of US troops arriving in Ukraine, Podoliak expressed skepticism, but said that pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin "does not necessarily require pushing for a direct confrontation" between the US and Russia, although such a conflict "would certainly be good for us."

Moscow has accused Kiev of violating the rules of war and using terrorist tactics because of its inability to defeat Russia militarily. Some Ukrainian supporters acknowledge that its government has used questionable methods of warfare, including a state-sponsored program of targeted killings. Among the victims was Russian journalist Darya Dugina, killed by a bomb in 2022.

Meanwhile, Russian forces have captured the town of Toretsk in Ukraine's Donetsk region, the Defense Ministry in Moscow said, citing the Ria Novosti news agency.
Russia calls the town, which had a pre-war population of about 30,000, part of the Soviet era and says the eastern Donetsk region of Ukraine where it is located is now part of Russia, a claim that Kiev rejects as absurd.

Ukrainian military analysts say the capture of Toretsk, which is on high ground, could allow Russian forces to further complicate logistics for Ukrainian forces in the greater east and advance northwest toward the regional logistics hub of Kostiantynivka, which is linked to several key cities.

Most of Toretsk's civilian population has long since fled or been evacuated, and many of the city's buildings are razed to the ground or badly damaged. (A2 Televizion)
