Protests have flared for a fourth night in Turkey following the arrest of the mayor of Istanbul, in the largest demonstrations the country has seen in more than a decade.
Ekrem Imamoglu, a rival of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was arrested on Wednesday, days before he was chosen as a presidential candidate for the 2028 elections.
Imamoglu appeared in an Istanbul court on Saturday and prosecutors sought his formal arrest on terrorism and corruption charges. He denied the charges.
In a reaction to the situation, President Erdogan condemned the unrest and accused the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) of trying to "disturb the peace and polarize the Turkish people."
Incidents were noted during the demonstration that began in Istanbul's municipality, where police fired tear gas endlessly to disperse the crowd, while squares were also filled with people in Ankara and Izmir.
So far, more than 400 people have been arrested in the protests. (A2 Televizion)
