Controversial brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate have returned to Romania from the United States, as they are being accused by Romanian authorities of human trafficking and other crimes.
"We have come here to prove our innocence because we deserve to have our day in court," Andrew Tate told reporters on March 22 outside his home in Voluntari, near Bucharest.
The brothers, who hold British and American passports, face several charges in Romania, including human trafficking and forming an organised criminal group. Andrew Tate is also accused of rape.
According to prosecutors, they recruited several women and forced them to create pornographic content, from which they earned large sums of money. The two brothers deny the charges.
Although they are under “judicial control,” meaning they must regularly report to authorities, Romania lifted the travel ban in February, which had previously prevented them from leaving the country. On February 27, the brothers traveled to Florida.
They have now returned to Romania and both have been summoned to appear at the police station in Voluntari on March 24, an obligation they must fulfill, according to judicial control procedures.
"Our passports have been returned. We live in Romania, we love Romania. We will never leave Romania. We have a house in Romania, we have Romanian children," Tate said, according to Ştirileprotv.
He insisted that the two, who are being investigated for creating an organized criminal group, for trafficking in human beings, including minors, rape and money laundering, "never had to go to prison" and that "our assets should not be confiscated."
In December, Romania's appeals court ruled that the trafficking case against the Tate brothers should not go to trial due to legal and procedural irregularities by prosecutors. The case has since been returned to prosecutors and remains open.
Andrew Tate, 38, told reporters on March 22 that he and Tristan, 36, returned to Romania "to clear our names and to vindicate ourselves."
Before arriving in Voluntari, he wrote on X, where he has almost 10.8 million followers, that he had spent $185,000 just to sign a letter in Romania. “Innocents don’t escape,” he wrote, posting a photo with his brother on a private jet.
In addition to the charges they face in Romania, the brothers are also being investigated in the United Kingdom over allegations of rape and human trafficking.
In the US, the Tate brothers are facing a civil lawsuit filed by a woman who says she was forced to become a sex worker and that the Tate brothers defamed her after she gave evidence to Romanian prosecutors.
The Tate brothers also face charges of tax evasion in the United Kingdom.
