Shocking footage showing a small plane crashing into one of the two lanes of the Ospitaletto-Montichiari motorway, known as Corda Moll in the province of Brescia, has been published on social media.
The accident, in which the Milanese couple Sergio Ravaglia and Anna Maria De Stefano were left dead in the flames, was recorded yesterday morning and miraculously a 56-year-old man, who was traveling in his Mazda vehicle towards Venice, escaped the collision.
"I'm fine," he told those who helped him in a terrified voice as he was in a state of shock and his car looked clearly damaged after being cut off by the crashing plane.
Italian media report that the small plane lost altitude, crashed to the ground and immediately burst into flames among passing vehicles.
The plane had taken off from Gragnano Trebbiense, in the province of Piacenza, but the couple travelling on board had no chance of escape. They were burned to death inside the plane, which burst into flames shortly after hitting the runway.
Enzo Bregoli was going down the Corda Molle, towards Montichiari, about to exit at the Azzano Mella intersection and he saw everything.
"I had started to slow down. And I noticed the plane coming from the right: it was flying low, yes, but it didn't look like it was in trouble. Not until that moment. Then I noticed that the altitude was really dropping, 30-20 meters. I won't deny that I was worried. Suddenly, the pilot seemed to lose control. The plane spun and fell straight down the road, nose forward, vertically. If it had tried to turn... it could have hit me. The moment the plane hit the tarmac, it immediately burst into flames," he confessed. (A2 Televizion)
