Turkey today unveiled its first hypersonic ballistic missile, the Tayfun Block-4, on the first day of the IDEF 2025 international defense industry fair, taking place in Istanbul.
Developed by Turkish defense company Roketsan, the Tayfun Block-4 weighs 2,300 kilograms, is 6.5 meters long and has a range of 800 kilometers. The missile was praised for its high speed and advanced maneuverability.
The Tayfun Block-4 ballistic missile is the hypersonic version of the Tayfun missile – the longest-range national missile ever produced in Turkey.
" The Tayfun Block-4 achieves long ranges, setting another record for the Turkish defense industry. Weighing over 7 tons, this new version of the Tayfun, with a multi-purpose warhead, will be able to destroy strategic targets such as air defense systems, command and control centers, military hangars and critical military facilities from long distances ," Roketsan said in a statement.
In its 17th edition, IDEF is one of the leading defense industry exhibitions in Turkey and this year is attracting a wide international participation.
The six-day event, which kicked off on Tuesday, includes the participation of more than 900 Turkish companies and 400 foreign companies from a total of 44 countries. Companies and delegations from countries such as China, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan and Pakistan are showcasing advanced technologies in the fields of defense, aviation and space.
In addition to the Tayfun Block-4, defense industry giant Roketsan also presented five new advanced systems at the fair.
" Today, our company – a global brand in missile, ballistic missile and ammunition technologies – continues to lead technological developments through research and development (R&D), to be the striking and deterrent force of the Turkish Armed Forces and to provide strategic and economic strength for our country through exports to many regions of the world – from America to Europe, from Asia to the Middle East. We participated in IDEF with over 60 defense systems that have proven success in the field, stand out from competitors in terms of performance, and are in the inventories of many modern armies, especially the Turkish Armed Forces. We are also presenting six new products at IDEF, once again demonstrating our progress in defense technology ," said Roketsan CEO Murat İkinci.
1. Atmaca missile with Akata capsule – It is the submarine-launched version of the Atmaca anti-ship missile, which is currently in the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces, with a range of 250 kilometers.
Equipped with the most advanced technology, Akata will strengthen Turkey's defenses, with a range of over 250 kilometers and an explosive fragmentation warhead.
2. Gökbora air-to-air missile – The missile with a range beyond visual range has a range of approximately 185 kilometers and will be used against enemy targets on manned and unmanned aerial platforms.
3. High-velocity, multi-purpose, circular munition, Eren - Eren can be used against low-speed air units, armored and unarmored ground targets, as well as enemy personnel. This munition can be launched from armed drones, helicopters, ground vehicles, ground systems and naval platforms, fulfilling a significant need in the field thanks to its superior maneuverability, long endurance and range of over 100 kilometers.
4. Air-Launched Ballistic Missile System, 300 Er – This missile system can be integrated into fighter jets and armed drones, with a range of over 500 kilometers, depending on the altitude and speed of launch. It can quickly strike strategic targets without the need for the launch platform to enter the enemy air defense danger zone.
5. Simsek-2 Satellite Launch Vehicle – This has the capacity to place satellites weighing up to 1,500 kilograms into sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of over 700 kilometers. Roketsan said it plans to conduct the first launch test of the Simsek-1 vehicle in 2027. (A2 Televizion)
