EU adopts 17th package of sanctions against Russia: We want to see strong US

The European Union is putting pressure on the US after the two-hour phone call between Trump and Putin, in which the Russian president spoke openly about a ceasefire, but the timing of which has not yet been determined.

Meanwhile, the European Union has adopted its 17th package of sanctions against Russia, targeting nearly 200 ships in the shadow fleet. The new measures also address hybrid threats and human rights. Further sanctions against Russia are being prepared.

"The longer Russia continues the war, the tougher our response will be," said EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, according to A2 CNN.

"We heard from the US that without a ceasefire there would be strong reactions, consequences, and now we want to see these consequences," stressed Kaja Kallas, upon arriving at the Foreign Affairs and Defense Council, specifying that so far there has been no "serious pressure" on Moscow in the discussions held by Donald Trump.

Keir Starmer's British government has announced another package of sanctions against Russia in response to Moscow's recent drone attacks in Ukraine. The initiative is in coordination with parallel sanctions from EU allies.

"Putin still does not seem seriously interested in peace, at least not on terms acceptable to others," said German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, upon arriving at the Foreign Affairs and Defense Council in Brussels, writes A2 CNN.

"It is still dragging on and even though Russia is willing to talk about a memorandum, there is no sign of a ceasefire at the moment. I am deeply convinced that now it is more important than ever to support Ukraine in a strong way, so today we will clarify with what concrete measures. The EU must further tighten sanctions, we will not be willing to tolerate Russia's actions without consequences." (A2 Televizion)
