Belgium closes airspace... due to a technical problem

Belgian airspace is currently closed due to a technical problem at Skeyes, the Belgian public company responsible for air traffic control.

This was announced by Brussels Airport, the company that manages the main Zaventem airport, specifying that it does not currently know how long the closure will last.

All aircraft in the airspace controlled by Skeyes were temporarily diverted to neighboring countries, with a backup system ensuring safety. The origin of the fault is currently unknown. No aircraft can take off or land at the airports of Zaventem, Antwerp, Ostend, Charleroi and Liège.

The temporary closure has resulted in large-scale disruptions to flights covering several routes within and outside Belgium. (A2 Televizion)
