Oval Office Debate, Zelensky: I will not take a single step back

Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes he can salvage his relationship with US President Donald Trump after their meeting in the Oval Office. Zelenskyy, in a statement from London, reiterated that Ukraine will not cede any territory to Russia as part of a peace deal. He said he was still willing to sign a minerals deal with the US and also announced discussions with European leaders to send a draft peace plan to the US as a key development, writes A2 CNN.

"We are not taking any steps back. This is our policy, to be consistent, regardless of what happened before, we are constructive. If we have agreed that it (the minerals agreement with the US) will be signed, from our side we are ready to sign it. I honestly think that the United States will also be ready. Maybe they need time to analyze some things," Zelensky said.

Zelensky said he did not think the US would stop its aid to Ukraine because as "leaders of the civilized world" they would not want to help Russian President Vladimir Putin. But he said he remains prepared for any outcome.

"Open conversations between partners are important. This is constructive, to get to know each other's positions. Such open conversations should happen, but I don't think it's right when such conversations are completely open, because emotions and information will definitely be used by enemies," said Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine.

A visibly shaken Zelensky arrived in London on Saturday, where he was greeted with a warm embrace from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and cheering supporters around Downing Street.

At Sunday's summit, Starmer said European leaders had agreed to draw up a peace plan for Ukraine to take to the US, in the hope that Washington would provide the security guarantees that Kiev says are vital to deterring Russia. (A2 Televizion)
