Former US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is "unwelcome" by Donald Trump's administration.
In a decision, Donald Trump has revoked the security clearances of Antony Blinken, the former Secretary of State, and Jake Sullivan, the former National Security Advisor. The move came a day after Trump said he had revoked the security clearance of his predecessor Joe Biden, barring him from access to daily intelligence briefings.
Donald Trump made this fact known in an exclusive interview given to the daily "New York Post", where he states: "Bad guy. Take away his permit. Take away every right they have, including that of entering federal buildings", writes A2.
Trump also revoked the security clearances of Biden's deputy attorney general, Lisa Monaco, who helped coordinate the Justice Department's response to the Jan. 6, 2021, attacks by Trump supporters on the U.S. Capitol, officials said Saturday. Trump also revoked the clearances of New York Attorney General Letitia James and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, both of whom led cases against Trump, they said.
The White House chief accuses Blinken of being one of the instigators of suspicions that Trump secretly collaborated with Moscow during the 2016 presidential campaign when he won his first term, which were dismissed.
While the revocations may not have an immediate impact, they are another sign of the growing division in Washington. Former US presidents have traditionally received intelligence briefings so they can advise current presidents on national security and foreign policy.
In 2021, Biden revoked the security clearance for Trump, who was then the former president. US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth last month revoked the personal security detail and security clearance for Mark Milley, a retired Army general and former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Many of Biden's diplomats had worked with incoming Trump officials in the weeks before Trump took office on Jan. 20, on issues including Russia's war in Ukraine. Blinken, meanwhile, has not made any statements to the media. (A2 Televizion)
