The Indian authorities in the state of Uttarakhand are in a battle against time to save the lives of 40 workers, who have been trapped for more than 72 hours due to a massive landslide.
Rescue teams, aided by federal forces, are trying to remove the mass of earth to reach workers who are already at the bottom of their water and food supplies.
The workers were trapped about 200 meters into the tunnel and none of them were injured, but it is not yet clear how long it will take to get them out of danger.
The Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi is part of an ambitious project by the Indian government to enable connectivity to visit the state's famous pilgrimage sites.
