On his first day in office, Donald Trump signed an executive order pardoning more than 1,500 people involved in the US Congressional riots four years ago - including those imprisoned for violent offenses.
According to foreign media, Donald Trump has said that attacks on police officers during the January 6 riots were "minor incidents."
In his first interview since his inauguration on Monday, recorded in the Oval Office, Trump told Fox News' Sean Hannity that most of those jailed for the U.S. Capitol riot were "absolutely innocent."
"Nobody has ever been treated so badly. They have been treated like the worst criminals in history," Trump said further, writes A2 CNN.
He went on to claim that those in the US Capitol were simply there "protesting against the votes" while claiming that the 2020 election was "rigged."
When asked by Mr Hannity about pardons for those jailed for assault, the president said: "They were very minor incidents."
The president was equally dismissive of the alleged threat to US security posed by TikTok.
